Republic Services makes changes for residential, commercial trash services

QUINCY -- Republic Services of Quincy has announced changes to residential and commercial trash services and the Backridge Landfill.

Republic officials said the following changes are due to COVID-19.

The following changes are in effect:

º All trash must be bagged and placed in a Republic cart. Republic workers will not handle any trash outside of any carts or commercial containers. This is an effort to limit drivers' exposure.

º All spring clean-ups and bulk pickups have been suspended. Officials said this is for the safety of the Republic employees.

º Republic offices will be closed to the public. Anyone needing to pay a bill may do so by going online to, using the Republic Services app available for smartphones or by calling 217-223-4100.

º All Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) clothing must be worn when bringing loads into the Backridge Landfill, including a high visibility vest and hard hat. Customers may bring their own PPE or purchase it from the landfill. No PPE will be loaned.
