To The Herald-Whig:
Two Republican candidates are running for Eighth Circuit judge in the March 17 primary. I am supporting Judge Drew Erwin. It surprises me how few voters really understand judicial races, what is important and how the legal community feels about the candidates.
Judge Erwin was unanimously selected by the Illinois Supreme Court to fill a vacancy after an extensive screening process of nine candidates that included his opponent. The process requires that an appointed judge be elected. Judge Erwin is now the only candidate with actual judicial experience and has earned the reputation on the bench as an exemplary judge who manages his courtroom with dignity and respect for everyone involved.
In a recent poll of attorneys in the eight countywide circuit conducted by the Illinois State Bar Association, Judge Erwin received a rating of 94.59% to his opponent's 70.91% as to meeting the requirements of office. Judge Erwin also rated higher than his opponent in the areas of integrity, impartiality, legal ability, temperament, court management, health and sensitivity. The complete poll results are available at: isba.org/judicialevaluations.
Please join me in ensuring that the Eighth Circuit is represented by the best possible candidate by voting for Judge Drew Erwin in the March 17 primary. Thank you.
