QUINCY — The Salvation Army Kroc Center will once again be offering a 12-week wellness series — "Healthy Aging" — to local seniors ages 62 and older.
Fitness Initiatives Coordinator Amy Junkerman will educate participants about healthy eating and general wellness. This program uses the "Health Eating Every Day" curriculum by Human Kinetics.
Each 90-minute session will include devotion and prayer, lesson, exercise and a healthy snack.
The first session of the series will be Feb. 18. The registration deadline is Feb. 17.
Participants must register at the Kroc Center.
Sessions are available on Tuesday and Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Each participant must choose either the Tuesday or Thursday session.
There is a limit of 10 participants per session.
Participants do not need to be members of the Kroc Center. A body composition analysis will be performed at the beginning and conclusion of each 12-week session.
"During previous sessions, the participants built friendships with one another," Junkerman said. "They also increased physical activity and fitness levels, balance, coordination and learned more about eating a balanced diet.
"I couldn't be more excited to instruct this series again. The Healthy Aging Series is a great opportunity for seniors to develop friendships with one another while learning basic, applicable tips for living a healthier lifestyle.
"We want each individual to walk away at the end of the 12 weeks with knowledge which will allow them to thrive spiritually, physically and mentally," Junkerman said.
The series is an ongoing program. Future sessions will be announced at a later date.
