QUINCY — Bragging rights are once again on the line at next week's live cake decorating competition hosted by Arts Quincy as part of the second edition of the Follow Your Heart Brunch at Quincy Country Club.
The brunch and cake decorating competition is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 9.
"This friendly contest serves as an opportunity for competitors to showcase their talents and creativity, test their skills and step out of their comfort zones with new techniques," said Laura Sievert, Arts Quincy's Executive Director. "At the end of the contest, the cakes will be judged and decorators will be awarded coveted titles and prizes including most creative cake and floral designer in Quincy!"
This year's theme is "All That Jazz!" to dovetail with Quincy Community Theatre's upcoming production of the musical "Chicago."
"It is a very fun event and proceeds support our mission to increase access and connect people to Quincy's vibrant fine arts and culture community," Sievert said. In addition to the cake competition, there is a floral arrangement contest. For each competition, guests will be given tickets to vote for their favorite cake and floral arrangement.
At the end of the event, lucky winners will be drawn from the entries to take home one of the entries.
Businesses participating in the cake decorating competition include Cakes by Karen, Hy-Vee Bakery at Harrison, Krazy Cakes, the Yum Factory and Underbrinks Bakery. Businesses participating in the floral contest include County Market at 24th Street, Holtschlag Florist, Hy-Vee at Harrison, the Flower Girl of Quincy and Wellman Florist.
Guests will be treated to delicious brunch bites, a 6-foot tall doughnut wall, mimosas and live music by Ziven Crist. Children can make a special keepsake with Miss Quincy and Miss Outstanding Teen Quincy at Craft Corner.
