Liberty Fire Department receives $120,000 loan for fire truck purchase

LIBERTY, Ill. -- The Liberty Fire Protection District has received a $120,000 loan from the Illinois Fire Truck Revolving Loan Program.

The fund provides no-interest or low-interest loans to fire departments, fire protection districts or township fire departments up to $350,000 for the purchase of new fire trucks or brush trucks. The loans must be repaid within 20 years.

Liberty was one of 23 departments to receive loans from the fund. Eleven other departments received money from the loan program to buy new ambulances. A total of $9.3 million was announced Wednesday.

"Fire departments throughout Illinois face financial stressors that can make it difficult to properly equip and train their firefighters," State Fire Marshal Matt Perez said. "These no- and low-interest loans allow departments to obtain vehicles they may not otherwise have been able to afford. This equipment will help them serve their communities in a safer, more efficient and effective way."
